Profound alternatives and competitors: eight tools, ranked on what you can buy without a demo

Profound is the best-funded platform in this category, and a brand cannot buy it without a demo: its one self-serve plan is for agencies. If you searched for this, you have probably hit that. Here is what Profound's pricing page actually says, and eight alternatives ranked on what their entry plan includes.

Profound's real strengths: coverage, data and enterprise security

  • Up to nine answer engines tracked on Enterprise, which is close to the widest coverage available.
  • A self-serve plan for agencies: client workspaces at $399 a month each, tracking 100 prompts daily on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with pitch workspaces for auditing prospects.
  • Agent Analytics that attributes AI-sourced traffic across your domains, with integrations for Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly, Vercel and the rest.
  • SSO, SAML and SOC 2 on Enterprise, and a $180M Series D behind it, which matters if procurement asks whether the vendor will exist next year.

Profound pricing: the free trial, the Enterprise quote and the agency plan

Plans and what each includes, in the vendor's own terms. Prices are monthly.

Profound, entry plan

Free 7-day trial, 50 prompts daily; brands then go to Enterprise, custom priced. Agencies: $399/mo per client workspace.

Up to nine on Enterprise. The trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews.

AIMentionTracker, entry plan

$9/mo, 2 prompts

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode. All six on every plan.

EnterpriseCustomTailored prompt plan, up to 9 answer engines, AI Marketer credits for the team, agents, dedicated support, SSO/SAML, SOC 2
Agency Growth$399/mo per client workspaceSelf-serve, for agencies: each client workspace tracks 100 prompts daily on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with 400 agent credits a month; 10 pitch workspaces a month; no API

No monthly figure is printed for Enterprise, so a brand's price comes from a demo; the agency plan carries the only published price. Read from tryprofound.com/pricing on 9 October 2026. Profound's pricing page.

Why people look

What sends teams looking beyond Profound: no published price for brands

Each of these is from Profound’s own pricing page, read on 9 October 2026.

  1. There is no self-serve plan for brands

For a brand, the pricing page has two columns: Trial, which is free for seven days, and Enterprise, which is custom and reached through a demo. There is nothing between them. The self-serve plan is on the agency tab, priced per client workspace. If you are a brand that wanted to put a card in and start, that option is not offered.

  2. The trial runs Profound's prompts, not yours

Fifty prompts, run daily for seven days, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. That is enough runs to see a rate form. The prompts are a recommended set chosen for your industry, and Profound's pricing page says trial users cannot customise them, so the trial shows how your category looks to Profound rather than whether you are named for the questions your buyers ask.

  3. Most of the price buys an AI Marketer

Profound's own page leads with 'Meet your AI Marketer': agents, credits, a context manager, Profound Sheets. Answer Engine Insights is one section of it. If what you want is to see which answers name a competitor instead of you, which pages the engines read, and whether a change worked, most of what you would be paying for is something else.

  4. The brand price is not published

We are not going to quote it, because Profound does not publish it: the Enterprise plan is priced on request, after a demo. The one figure on the page is for agencies, $399 a month per client workspace. Any brand figure you read elsewhere is not from Profound's own page.

In AIMentionTracker, every plan has its price on it, and you start the trial yourself: no demo and no quote.

Eight Profound competitors and alternatives, ranked on price and engines

Ranked on what the cheapest plan includes, the same criterion as our comparison page. We are first on it because ours is the only entry plan that carries every engine with nothing sold as an add-on. Each entry says how the tool differs from Profound and nothing else; the general write-ups are on the comparison page.

  1. The AI visibility platform to get recommended by AI, with a published price from $9 a month and a card you can put in today. Six engines on every plan, the answers that name a competitor instead of you, every answer stored in full with its citations, every rate with its sample size. No agents, no content pipeline and no prompt-volume dataset, and the measurement rules are public.

  2. Entry plan

    $29/mo Lite, 15 prompts

Full entry on the comparison page

Self-serve from $29 with four engines included and three more as add-ons. The simplest onboarding on this page and the closest thing to Profound's breadth of extras (agent analytics, MCP, API) at a published price, on the $189 Standard plan.

  3. Entry plan

    €85/mo Starter, 50 prompts

Full entry on the comparison page

Self-serve from €85 with a client-facing dashboard that agencies like. Three models per project, more as add-ons, up to thirteen on Enterprise. The most direct Profound substitute for an agency that reports to clients.

  4. Entry plan

$17/mo Essentials, billed yearly; $99/mo Pro with 1,200 credits

Full entry on the comparison page

Credit-based from $17 a month, billed yearly, with seventeen or more engines on every plan, a REST API from the $229 Pro+ and white-label on the $385 Growth. More engines than Profound lists, at a price you can read.

  5. Entry plan

    $295/mo Starter, 3,600 credits

Full entry on the comparison page

Eleven engines on the $295 Starter, an Action Center that turns findings into fixes, and 300 credits to try it at no cost. The nearest thing to Profound's coverage with a number on the page.

  6. Entry plan

Index from $199/mo; prompt packages from $50/mo; Ahrefs Lite ($129/mo) includes 5 tracked prompts

Full entry on the comparison page

If you already pay for Ahrefs, your plan includes a few tracked prompts, packages start at $50 a month, and the AI Visibility Index needs no setup, from $199 a month. No demo required.

  7. Entry plan

$99/mo toolkit, 25 prompts; Semrush One from $199/mo with 50

Full entry on the comparison page

Same logic for a Semrush shop, at $99 a month for the toolkit. Weekly Brand Performance updates, daily Prompt Tracking on four engines, inside a tool you already use.

  8. Entry plan

    $250/mo Core, 125 prompts

Full entry on the comparison page

Now self-serve: Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts on four engines, with a seven-day trial, and the agent-experience layer is on Enterprise. Owned by Sitecore since June 2026.

The honest answer

Who Profound is still right for: enterprise teams with a mandate

For an enterprise buyer, Profound is the serious option, and we say so on our comparison page too. Its own comparison of these tools is candid about rivals. The reason to look elsewhere is size, not quality.

Stay with Profound if

  • You are an enterprise marketing team with a mandate to do AEO at scale.
  • You have a budget for a demo-led sale, and people to run agents.
  • You need nine engines plus a prompt dataset of that size. Nothing below matches it.

Look at the alternatives if

  • You want a published price and a plan you can start yourself, without a demo.
  • You want to see which answers name a competitor instead of you and which pages they cite, without paying for agents and a content pipeline.

How to choose

Choosing below enterprise size: what to check instead of booking a demo

Three questions, written for the reason you are leaving.

  1. Decide what size of tool you actually need

Profound sells agents, a content pipeline, attribution and a prompt dataset. If what you need is to see which answers name a competitor instead of you and which pages the engines read, most of that is extra, and most tools on this page sell the smaller thing. Start there. The rest can be added when the data shows something worth acting on.

  2. Ask whose prompts the trial runs

A trial can only tell you about the prompts it runs. Profound's now runs daily for a week, which is enough to see a rate form, on a recommended set you cannot edit. Before you start any trial, check two things: whose prompts it runs, and how many times each one is asked. A seven-day trial on a paid plan runs yours, on all six engines, through a full week of checks.

  3. Do not confuse engine count with coverage

Nine engines is more coverage than six only if your buyers use the extra ones. Ask any vendor how each engine is collected: from the consumer app a buyer uses, or from a bare model through an API, which can answer differently. Then count the engines your buyers actually ask.

How much does Profound cost?
Profound publishes one price, for agencies: client workspaces at $399 a month each on the self-serve Agency Growth plan. For brands, the pricing page lists a free seven-day Trial (50 prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews) and a custom-priced Enterprise plan reached through a demo. Read on 9 October 2026.
Is Profound free?
The Trial is free for seven days: 50 prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. The prompts are a recommended set for your industry and cannot be customised, so it shows you the product and your category rather than the questions your buyers ask. After the trial, a brand moves to Enterprise through a demo.
Is Profound worth it?
For an enterprise team with a mandate to do AEO at scale, it is the most complete platform in the category: up to nine engines, agents, SSO and SOC 2. Below that size the obstacle is access rather than quality: there is no self-serve plan for brands, so the way in is a demo and an Enterprise quote.
Who are Profound's competitors?
The eight on this page: AIMentionTracker, Otterly, Peec AI, Rankscale, AthenaHQ, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit and Scrunch. The nearest to Profound's coverage with a price on the page is AthenaHQ, with eleven engines on its $295 Starter; the most direct substitute for an agency that reports to clients is Peec AI.
Which Profound alternative has self-serve pricing?
Every tool on this page prints a price you can start on yourself: AIMentionTracker from $9, Rankscale from $17 a month billed yearly, Otterly from $29, Peec from €85, Semrush's toolkit at $99, Ahrefs' index from $199, Scrunch from $250 and AthenaHQ from $295.
Does any alternative track nine engines like Profound?
AthenaHQ tracks eleven on Starter, and Rankscale lists seventeen or more on credits. Peec lists up to thirteen on Enterprise and three per project below it. We track six, all on every plan, and do not yet cover Copilot, Grok, Meta AI or DeepSeek.
Profound or Peec AI?
Different customers. Profound is an enterprise platform with agents and a demo-led sale for brands, plus a self-serve plan for agencies. Peec is self-serve from €85 with a dashboard built for agency reporting. If you are asking the question, you are probably not Profound's customer yet, and Peec's three-model cap is the thing to check before you pick it.
