How we collect Perplexity answers

Collected through the API with web search enabled.

Because it cites so heavily, Perplexity is where cited but not named shows up most clearly. If your page is in the citation list on twenty answers and your brand is named in none of them, the problem is your framing rather than your indexing, and no amount of extra content will fix it.

The collection method is shown next to every figure, because a scraped product surface and a model API answer are different measurements. Averaging them would produce a number that is not about anything. Our methodology sets out what we do and do not claim.

What we record

The whole answer, not a score derived from it

Every Perplexity response is stored in full with its citations, so a number you doubt can always be traced back to the sentence it came from. That is what makes cited but not named visible instead of invisible.

Which brands were named,
and in what order. First mention and last mention are not equivalent, so position is stored rather than flattened.
Which sources were cited,
as URLs, so you can see whose pages are shaping the answer in your category.
The full answer text,
kept verbatim, so any figure on any screen can be audited against the words that produced it.
Answer · Perplexity · “best project tracker for agencies”

For agency work the strongest options are Northstar, Planwise and Tandem. Northstar handles multi-client billing best, while Planwise has the clearest approval flow for client sign-off…

Compare against the other engines

Being named by one assistant and ignored by another is the common case, and the gap is usually where the work is.

Perplexity tracking questions

Can you track brand mentions in Perplexity?
Yes. We run your category questions against Perplexity on a schedule, store each answer verbatim, and record which brands were named and which sources were cited. Collected through the API with web search enabled.
Why does Perplexity give a different answer each time?
Answers are generated rather than looked up, so wording, brand order and citations all vary between runs. That is why we report a share of answers with the count behind it instead of a single yes or no, and why we show a fraction rather than a percentage below five answers.
How is Perplexity different from the other assistants you track?
Because it cites so heavily, Perplexity is where cited but not named shows up most clearly. If your page is in the citation list on twenty answers and your brand is named in none of them, the problem is your framing rather than your indexing, and no amount of extra content will fix it.
Do you average Perplexity together with other engines?
Never. Each engine retrieves differently, and a blended score hides which one you are losing. Every figure is reported per engine, with the collection method stated, so you always know what the number is made of.
  • Every rate for Perplexity carries the number of answers behind it.
  • Perplexity is never averaged with another engine.
  • Collection failures on our side leave the denominator.
